Amerikaanse komedie uit 2008 van David Gordon Green, met Seth Rogen en James Franco. Dale Denton, een luie wietroker koopt zijn superjoint 'Pineapple express' bij zijn even luie dealer Saul Silver. Als zij getuige zijn van een brute moord door een drugsbaron en een gewetenloze politieagent slaan zij op de vlucht achternagezeten door de moordenaars. Roger Ebert (Chicago Suntimes,i) geeft 3 1/2 ster (van 5): 'Pineapple express has all the elements you'd expect from the genre: male bonding, immature sexual desires, verbal scatology (red./obsceniteiten), formidable drug abuse, fight scenes, gunfire, explosions. Yawn? Not this time. It's a quality movie even if the material is unworthy of the treatment. As a result, yes, it's a druggie comedy that made me laugh.' David Gordon Green (born April 9, 1975) is an American filmmaker. He directed the dramas George Washington (2000), All the Real Girls (2003), and Snow Angels (2007), as well as the thriller Undertow (2004), all of which he wrote or co-wrote.

In 2008, Green transitioned into comedy, directing the films Pineapple Express (2008), Your Highness and The Sitter (both 2011). He returned to his dramatic roots with the independent films Prince Avalanche and Joe (both 2013), followed by the films Manglehorn (2014), Our Brand Is Crisis (2015), and Stronger (2017). Green also directed the slasher film Halloween (2018), which he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Danny McBride. He is also set to direct the next two installments of the franchise.
